Opening hours

What are the Museum opening hours?

The Museum is open from Monday to Thursday from 9:30 to 17:00.
On Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00.
The Museum is closed on Fridays.
Ticket sales close at 16:00.
The Museum closes at 17:00, from 16:45 visitors are asked to leave.

Is the Museum open every day?

No, the Museum is closed on Fridays.
We are closed on 01.01, 01.05, 01.11, 11.11 & 25.12.
On 24 and 31.12, the Museum closes at 15:00 (final entry at 14:00).

How much time should I allow for a museum visit?

Allow about 90 min for a visit.

Is museum free of charge on the first Wednesday or Sunday of the month?

No, the Museum is not free of charge on the first Wednesday or Sunday of the month.

Can I buy tickets at the welcome desk?

Yes, you can buy tickets at the welcome desk. However, as the number of tickets available per time slot is limited, we recommend you book your tickets in advance.

I bought my ticket online, but I did not get a confirmation. What do I do now?

Accessibility

Where is the Museum located?

The Museum is located at Boulevard du Midi 150, 1000 Brussels.

Which are the nearest public transport stops?

By train: Ten minutes’ walk from the ‘Brussels South’ station.

By metro: Alight at ‘Porte de Hal’.

By bus: lines 48, 365A: alight at ‘Porte de Hal’.

By tram: lines 3, 55, 90: alight at ‘Porte de Hal’.

By car: Underground (pay) parking on the Waterloolaan

Is the Museum wheelchair accessible?

A lift is available for people with reduced mobility (on request at the reception). The panoramic view of the city from wall walk of the Halle Gate is unfortunately only accessible by stairs.
 

Collections

What kind of collections does the Halle Gate have?

The Halle Gate is the last vestige of the second walls of Brussels. It houses a collection of weapons, sculptures, paintings, silverware and curiosities. They present the history of the building, as well as of the City of Brussels, its guilds and its defence.

Exhibitions

What exhibitions are currently on at the Museum? 

There are currently no temporary exhibitions at the Halle Gate. But you can visit the permanent collections and visit this magnificent building.
 

Cloakroom

Is the cloak room free of charge?

Yes, the cloakroom consists of lockers. Ask for your token at the welcome desk.

What should I store in the cloakroom?

Large bags, backpacks and umbrellas should always be stored in the cloakroom.
 

Group visits

Do I need to book in advance if I come with a group?

Yes, larger groups (more than 15 people) must always book their visit in advance, even when not booking a guided tour. Bookings can be made via this webform.

Do I need to order tickets in advance?

Groups of up to 15 people are not required to purchase tickets in advance. Booking advised if you want to visit at your preferred time.

Do I have to pay in full upon booking?

Group reservations must be paid in advance.

Can I cancel my ticket?

No, tickets cannot be reimbursed or exchanged.

Can I get an invoice?

For group bookings, you will receive a booking confirmation where you will be asked to transfer the fee for the guide and the entrance fees. Only government organisations can pay by invoice after sending an official order form. No invoices can be issued for ticket purchases via the welcome desk, kiosks or online ticket shop.

I would like to book a guide, how many days in advance should I do this?

You should book a guided visit or workshop at least three weeks in advance. You can book via this webform.

Can I take a guided tour?

Yes, we organise guided tours and workshops on request. Look here to see what’s on offer and for practical information. As an individual visitor, you can join an introductory tour. Check the calendar for dates and themes.
 

Restaurant

Can I have something to eat or drink at the Museum?

No, there is no restaurant at the Museum. There are dining facilities in the surrounding neigbourhood.
