A Robinson. By Daniel Defoe

A Robinson tells the story of a young Englishman whose only passion is the sea. He embarks against his parents' wishes and has many adventures - prisoner of pirates, sugar cane planter - until the famous shipwreck that leaves him alone on a deserted island, well not quite deserted. The arrival of a companion, Friday, will change his life. Then mutineers appear, dragging with them hostages: the wife and son of our hero!
The play deals with the themes of slavery, friendship and cultural differences, but also presents extravagant scenes in the style of 19th century melodramas with numerous sets and characters in the manner of classic paper theatres. It is therefore both a real play and an introduction to this very special form of play, a cross between storytelling, theatre and puppetry.

The play is followed by a history of paper theatre, accompanied by a presentation of original documents.
